Hi all,

In the next week we have some very interesting tools coming to our online auctions, there will be a lot of new items for sale.

One of the very impressive tools to be auctioned shortly is this fantastic Mathieson smoothing plane in its original box. I have heard of one other Mathieson plane that also had an original box, but that had the wrong box for the plane.

The dovetailed plane is stamped ‘Mathieson & Sons, Glasgow’ on the front infill, above this is the owner’s stamp. The infill is rosewood, and the lever cap is gunmetal, and as you might expect the parallel iron is ‘Alex Mathieson & Sons’. The label on the front of the box shows that it was made at the ‘Saracen Tool Works, Glasgow.’ It is very rare to find a tool in such fabulous original condition.

Other items coming up for sale in the auctions include a good Stanley No.1, an ivory and silver decorative plumb bob, a dated Austrian croze and much more.

Whilst we are on the topic of auctions, Tony Murland will be holding his International Sale later this month. For more information on the auction and catalogue sales please have a read of my review in the articles section.
